A Silent Death by Peter May - crime novel set in Spain.

Putting that on one side, have you noticed how many well-known "blockbuster" authors are now reissuing their earlier works?
This one's actually a case in point. The frontispiece page says:

First published in Great Britain in 2020 by riverrun.
This reissue paperback edition published in 2025 by riverrun

When Mrs O and I read the back cover synopsis in Waitrose, we didn't remember it, so we bought it.
Now we've started it, it's all come back. I can even tell you who did it!

Peter May isn't the only author doing this by any stretch.
You have to be very careful buying paperbacks these days; I'm trying to train myself to always check the date.

Ossie, didn't Peter May write A Year in Provence? I loved the TV adaptation with John Thaw.

That was Peter Mayle, Kaz. :D

Peter May is Scottish and has published around 30 books, mainly thoughtful crime dramas, set variously in France, China and Scotland.
He has also had a long career in scriptwriting TV series including a major "soap" based in the Hebrides for Scottish Television, much of it apparently in Gaelic! (Similar concept to Pobol y Cwm on S4C in Wales).
Mrs O and I both enjoy his books; well worth trying out if you like that sort of thing.
