"Our support for farmers is steadfast"

Says our government.
Putting inheritance tax on just about every farm in the country says differently.
As does increasing the tax on the fertilizers that farmers need to grow crops.
As does their latest act.
Which is apparently to enable councils to buy land from farmers by means of compulsory purchase at agricultural prices, when that land is going to be used for housing.

I think taking something which isn't yours and profiting from it used to be called theft?

As far as I can see there is nothing to stop councils buying farmland cheap and selling it dear, and pocketing the profit.
And who will be buying the land?
Sir Keir Starmer has already indicated that he prefers Davos to Westminster, and he has also stated that the government will work with firms like the American asset management corporation BlackRock to "deliver for the British people".
So it seems entirely logical to assume that large swathes of British farmland will end up being owned by massive foreign corporations or billionaires like Bill Gates who is already the largest owner of farmland in the USA.
Chuck into the mix Bill Gates' enthusiasm for laboratory grown meat and the picture isn't a pretty one.

I have a sneaking suspicion that whoever benefits from this most, it won't be "the British people".

DOGE in the US is turning up evidence that BlackRock has been one of the deepest involved with NGO syphon of US government funds.

The witch hunt has not even really begun over there on who has been sucking at the teat of the US government. I am reading that almost every member of Congress and the Senate has a family member in a senior position in one of more NGO's and receiving very large recompense.

Perhaps the UK should do the same with our MP's and the Lords???

If the UK stopped importing migrants in the 6,7,800,000s every year we would not need 1.5 million new houses. And if we are going to buld like mad then let's do it on brownfield sites and former industrial land.

And if we are going to allow councils to steal land then they should be forced to build social housing with all the amenities necessary.

Farms are being bought and turned into solar units. So no food production. Justmassie profits by energy companied who et subsidies.

Yet the government will not give the go ahead for small necluear reactors.

I don't believe a word that comes out of Starmer's mouth.

The penny has just dropped, a bit late in the day.

This is about the acquisition of assets, isn't it? The asset being the land.
After the famers have been driven off their land, who is going to buy it?

Very likely, billionaire corporations and individual billionaires.

Butter wouldn't melt in their mouths in the run-up to the election. According to Rachel Reeves everything was fully costed and any increase in taxes would not impact on working people.. Now Labour are in government with a massive majority they can do as they like. I am quite fearful of what they will come out with next. Will they be asking pensioners if they use all the bedrooms in their home as there are asylum seekers to be housed and the government needs spare rooms to house them. It may seem far fetched but who would have thought farmers would be forced to sell their land whether they wanted to or not for a price dictated by the government.
