Polish Chicken

If I have got this right, it seems from this Guardian article that because the UK has repeatedly delayed implementing the expected border checks since Brexit, we have been allowing salmonella infected poultry products in from Poland for a number of years. Not exactly a good look, is it? I presume these products have been going into "manufactured" food items, not sold as fresh.

It would be interesting to know what sort of checks went on prior to Brexit.

It is a worry and one of the reasons I always try to buy British fresh meat - beef, pork and chicken - and then cook it well.

Unfortunately we cannot eradicate E coli, campylobacter, salmonella and other diseases from the food chain; the best we can do is detect them and then act, but some will always get through.

I am a Remainer / Rejoiner, and always will be, but I do not think that this is necessarily a Brexit thing: it's global.

I buy my meat from a local butcher who gets it from local farms. No mported stuff.

I also buy the chicken breasts. Must ask where he gets those from next week.
