Very grim representation indeed. But, I am a River Cruiser so wonderful memories of being on a boat with just a few people as we glide between the river banks on the Mekong, the Volga, the Yangtze, the Amazon, the Nile, the Danube, the Douro, the Dneiper, among the glaciers and icebergs of Alaska, island hopping on the Galapagos.

Seeing the world and the lives of others on River Boats is full of wonderfullness

Haven't seen the programme, but did a cruise last year. We had a good time, would not be a rush back to do it again, but seen some wonderful places I otherwise probably would never have been able to within a standard holiday.

Also with costs rising, if you can be flexible with holiday times, it can work out very reasonable.

Mr L and I went on a Scottish cruise thing last year, but it was nothing like the big cruises. It was a converted fishing boat with only 11 passengers and 4 crew. Fabulous food, fabulous views, NO entertainment and just blissfully quiet and relaxing. The sun shone too

I think, as well as the noise and so many people in one place which you mentioned, I'd feel too restricted by the itinerary. The "If it's Tuesday you're going here, and make sure you're back at the ship by such and such a time kind of thing".
